March 2, 2020:
The Orion Backup Flight Software (BFS) team was visited last week by astronaut Randy Bresnik. Bresnik discussed the importance of BFS in ensuring the safety of our astronauts and the success of the Artemis program. The Backup Flight Software system is designed as an independent flight computer capable of controlling the Orion spacecraft in the event of a systemic malfunction of the 4 main flight computers. An initial build of BFS has been delivered for the Artemis-1 mission. The team is continuing development towards the Artemis-2 mission, currently scheduled for launch in 2022. Odyssey contributes guidance, navigation, and control expertise as part of the backup flight software team residing at Johnson Space Center.
